Getting started

How an organization gets onto Kinshare, what’s at no charge, what membership adds, and how your staff sign in.

Claim your listing

Your organization may already be in the Kinshare directory. We build listings from public IRS records and from organizations’ own websites. Claiming the listing lets you keep it correct. It’s at no charge, and it stays that way whether or not you become a member.

  1. Find your organization on the site and choose Claim it at no charge, or open Claim your organization from the For organizations menu.
  2. Fill in the form with your work email. An address at your organization’s own website makes the check quicker.
  3. Open the link in the email we send. That confirms your address and opens your claim status page. Keep that page: you finish the claim there. No email after a few minutes? Check spam, then press Send the email again on the status page.
  4. Show the organization is yours. If your email is at the same domain as the organization’s website, that’s done for you. If not, you can have a code emailed to the address on the website, or ask us to call the organization’s published phone number, or ask for a code by mail to the address the IRS has on file. Mail can take up to ten days.
  5. Upload your IRS EIN letter (CP 575 or 147C) as a PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB. We delete it once the claim is decided.
  6. A person at Kinshare checks the name, EIN and address on the letter against the listing. When it’s approved you get an email with a link to set your password. The link lasts 72 hours and works once.

After that, an organization administrator keeps the listing up to date under Our listing in the portal. Each save shows on the public site right away. Everything on that page is public, so never put anything about a client there.

An organization whose tax exemption the IRS lists as revoked can’t be claimed. If that’s a mistake, write to support@kin-share.org.

Membership and price

The listing is at no charge. Everything else needs a membership: sending and receiving referrals, clients and consent records, outcomes, grants tools, forms, imports, dashboards, the network board, tasks and compliance tools. Without one, those pages show a lock and a short page about membership.

The price is pay what you can:

An organization administrator starts the membership from Membership in the portal and pays on Stripe’s own page. Nobody types a card number into Kinshare. If online payment isn’t open yet, the page says so: write to support@kin-share.org and we’ll set the membership up for you.

If a payment fails you keep full use for 30 days. After that the account is read-only until it pays. Nothing is deleted for a missed payment, and your listing never depends on membership.

One membership covers both sides if your organization also makes grants.

Add your staff

Organization administrators do this under Staff access in the portal.

  1. Choose Add staff member.
  2. Enter a Work email (never a client’s address), the Role and the Language they want the portal in.
  3. Save. A Setup link appears. It’s shown once, so copy it now. It’s also emailed. It lasts 72 hours and works once. If it runs out, press New setup link on their row.

The roles:

Tick Privacy officer for anyone who should read your organization’s access log.

The day someone leaves, press Revoke access and then Confirm revoke on their row. Their sessions end at once. Don’t wait for the end of the month.

Two-step sign-in

Every staff account uses two-step sign-in. You’ll need an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator or any app that makes six-digit codes.

  1. The first time you sign in, Kinshare shows a square code.
  2. Scan it with the app. The app starts showing six digits that change every 30 seconds.
  3. Type the current six digits into Code from your app and choose Confirm and continue.

From then on, each sign-in asks for your password and then a fresh code.
